Hi Everyone and Happy Thursday!

I thought we were supposed to get lots of showers in April?  Well, as most of you may have heard by now the Nation’s Triathlon is now the Nation’s Biathlon.  There will be no swim on Sunday.    Instead there will be a 40k ride followed by a 10k run.  I know there are a lot of disappointed people but I’m certain they made the right call.  Although I haven’t swam in the Potomac River personally I’ve heard it’s a rough go when it’s been churned up like this.  Let’s hope for clear skies on Sunday morning.  It will be a great day either way!!

Advice from the Nation’s Tri regarding footwear on Sunday:  “For those racing this year you can wear any type of foot wear you wish when waiting for your turn to start the race. You will be waiting outside of transition, which may be muddy if the rain continues. So, our advice is to pack an extra pair of shoes for the pre-start.”

For those racing on Sunday:  If you have not already done so please email me  1. Your bib number  2. Your cell phone number    I will text everyone in the morning to let them know where our meeting points are.

I could use one or two volunteers to take photos and help collect things from people in the transition area (most notably it seems like we may be collecting extra race shoes!) and bring them to our meeting area.

Here’s what’s happening:

Saturday morning – 9:30am – First Timers Ironman Discussion (free to OTTC members/$10.00 non members)

Grab your Misha’s and come on down to OTTC HQ where Darryel, Matt and Bering will give a step by step run down of their experience with Ironman Lake Placid in July.  This was the first Ironman for each of them.   This will be a great discussion for triathletes at every level.  (Note: 8 time Ironman Mindy Soranno will be hosting 70.3 and Ironman clinics beginning in late fall – be on the lookout for those announcements)

Saturday @ 1:00pm – Nation’s ‘Bi’ bike rack car pool

After the First Timers Ironman Discussion Darryel and I will be at the Alexandria Fire Department HQ parking lot to meet up with those who would like to carpool to rack their bike.  This parking lot is right behind our house (1005 Colonial Ave. 22314) and offers plenty of free parking.  There is no permit required on the weekends.  For those that would like to Metro either way it is a 7 minute walk to Braddock Metro station from our house.

Sunday @ 4:30am – Carpool to Nation’s Tri

This is a ‘no host’ carpool.  Anyone who is interested in carpooling please refer to the MeetUp website, RSVP and discuss.  Please indicate if you have a car available and/or a bike rack.  The Alexandria Fire Department is within walking distance to both Braddock St. Metro and Rustico restaurant for brunch.  I am not sure if Darryel and I will be there at 4:30am but I will post on the MeetUp site sometime tomorrow.

Sunday @ 2:30pm – Brunch at Rustico Restaurant

Rustico Restaurant has a wonderful brunch menu and an extensive beer menu.  Come and join your fellow OTTC members for a casual brunch at Rustico.

Monday @ 7:00pm – Happy Hour at King Street Blues

Calling all OTTC members!  It’s time to revel in victory!  Bring your Nation’s Finisher medal and join your fellow OTTC friends for a group photo. Hear about current club happenings and learn what’s up for 2012.   King Street Blues kindly offers us happy hour pricing on food and drinks until 9pm.  (Note: Beginning in October 2011, OTTC Happy Hours will be open to OTTC members, their personal guests and first time attendees only)

Wednesday @ 7:00pm – Intro to Old Town Tri Club & Beginner Triathlete Program

If you’ve got a friend or family member that has expressed interest in doing their first triathlon PLEASE FORWARD THIS INFO to them.  Darryel is going to be leading a discussion for those people who would like to do their first triathlon in 2012.  OTTC will be offering a complete start to finish beginner program in January 2012.
