1.       Happy Hour – Monday, November 14, 2011

First things first:  There will be an OTTC Happy Hour on Monday at Columbia Firehouse.  **Note the new location**  We are excited to welcome the Neighborhood Restaurant Group back as a sponsor for 2012.  Be sure to visit their other locations including Buzz, Rustico, Evening Star and Vermillion all near Old Town.   Among other things we will be raffling off an entry to the Columbia Triathon donated by Tri Columbia.  Come and hear about OTTC happenings and chat with your other triathlon compadres!

2.       Matt Tourville resumes winter spin classes:  Coach Matt has once again resumed teaching spin classes and he’s got a new home at Spin Cycle, Alexandria’s newest cycling work-out and training facility.  Matt’s next class is being held this Wednesday at 6am.  OTTC is currently working on a partnership with Spin Cycle that will bring additional benefits to our members.  We will announce it as soon as it is finalized.

3.       Calling all beginner triathletes

Our pilot beginner triathlete program is set to start in January.  We’re excited to be able to help you reach your goals and hope you’ll join us for the Kinetic Sprint  in May.  We will have a kick off meeting in January but for those that would like to get a jump start on training we have mentors available for you to chat with.  Simply send me an email, I’ll have you fill out a very short questionnaire and we’ll get you all set up!

4.       Beginner Swim Classes

Coach Dominic is offering a Beginners Swim Class beginning in January at Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, 3210 King St. (2 miles west of Old Town)  Details: 12 Sessions, January 9th to February 15, 2012.  Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm. Cost: $99.00  This class is very limited for enrollment and registrants will be taken on a first come, first served basis.  Email me if you would like to register.

5.       Team Fisher House @ The Marine Corps Marathon

Wow, Wow and wow again.   OTTC was the TOP fundraising team for Team Fisher House at the MCM.  Our members raised and donated a whopping $18,440.00 to benefit our injured soldiers and their families.  How awesome is that?  Special thanks to the dynamic duo,  Christian and Leigh Ann Schultz – together they raised $15890.00.  What an amazing accomplishment.  We will recognize all fund raisers at Monday’s meeting.

6.       It’s Turkey Trot Time

Wanna Turkey Trot?  If you happen to be in town on Thanksgiving Day there are two races in our local area.  OTTC is not participating as a group in either of these but we want to let you know about them so you can be proactive in the fight against Thanksgiving dinner food comas.  Here are the races in a nutshell:  Alexandria Turkey Trot, 5 miles, 10am start, 4000 participants, $20.00 with no T Shirt  *  Arlington Turkey Trot, 3.1 miles, 8am start, 2000 participants, $26.00 T-Shirt is not guaranteed if you register after November 1.

7.       Hot Chocolate 5k/15k @ National Harbor – December 3, 2011

So far we’ve got 30 OTTC’ers participating in this race, what fun!  The race is now sold out – if you’re going please RSVP HERE   Volunteer members Lisa Letke and Dawn Idstein are working on a place for us to gather and meet for brunch afterward.  Be on the lookout for upcoming details.

11.   Race Report: 2011 Aqua Velo @ The ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival

One of our members, Margie Auer, completed this Swim/Bike biathlon in September and was kind enough to do a race report for us.  Click Here if you’d like to read about her experience at this event.  We encourage all members to share their knowledge and write a race report. We will have a designated section on our website for these in the coming months.    THANK YOU Margie!
