Happy Hour – Wednesday, October 19, 2011

First things first:  There will be an OTTC Happy Hour next Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at King Street Blues.  Due to scheduling conflicts we weren’t going to be able to host a happy hour in October.  Plans have changed and we hope to see you next week!  We anticipate adding 2-3 other Old Town/Del Ray restaurant partners for 2012 to add variety to our meeting locations.  Please email me if you can volunteer some time to work on restaurant sponsors for 2012. Mark your calendar for November 14 for our next Happy Hour.

Mentors Needed

Our beginner triathlete program is set to start in January and it’s gaining momentum.  Some participants are already getting a jump on things and have started training.  If you are willing to be a mentor, guide, sounding board, advice giver etc. to another member (beginner-advanced) please step up and let me know who you are!  (For those that raised their hand at the meeting in July I do have your names and will connect with you shortly)  We are looking for mentors at every skill level.

Last Call:  Team Fisher House @ The Marine Corps Marathon or Marine Corps 10k – Sunday, October 30, 2011

OTTC member Marjorie Strayer has offered to match each member’s contribution up to $100.00.  Both the Marathon and 10k are sold out but there is still time to raise money for a very worthy cause.  You can check out the instructions on our MeetUp site and email Marjorie with additional questions.

Hot Chocolate 5k/15k @ National Harbor – December 3, 2011

When we had our general meeting in July members were quite vocal about their enthusiasm for this event.  Hmmm, is it the swag?  Yes, they have a pretty cool swag bag jacket for each finisher.  This has the potential to be a really fun day.  The National Harbor will be all decked out for Christmas and I was thinking we could plan a group lunch after the run to bask in some holiday cheer.  I’d like to get some feedback on the idea of a group lunch so please email me with your thoughts/ideasRSVP HERE for the Hot Chocolate 5k/15k

The Rock N’ Roll series has taken over management of the “National Marathon and 13.1”  Personally I’ve participated in about 10 Rock N’ Roll events and I love how they do things.  From the entertainment to the organization they know how to put on a great event! Sign up by 10/31 and receive a $15.00 savings off of the marathon or half marathon.  (I’ve also heard that if you sign up at the Marine Corps Marathon expo you will receive an $18.00 savings)

A new website is coming

We are working on a new website that we hope to have online by the end of the year.  We will be integrating a calendar and forums that will end the need for our members to continue to switch back and forth between MeetUp and OTTC.org.  If you are interesting in volunteering some time to review and test the new website over the coming months please let me know.  Oh – and if you happen to be proficient in Wordpress.org we need you!
